Event 5 hosted by TLMC this Sunday July 25 [July 19, 2010]

Round five of the CASC-OR Provincial Tour comes to Ontario's best autoslalom parking lot!

Registration opens at 8:15, and closes at 9:15.

Driver's meeting at 9:30.

First car on course by 10:00.

Fee structure is as follows:

Cars will be run in numerical order! Drivers are to report for marshalling duties after each run.

There will be no lunch break.

The faster people report for mashalling duties, the more time you will have between your mashalling stint and you next run. This should give you enough time to go get food. There is a Tim Horton's down the street. There is also a Little Caesars close by as well. Also, feel free to bring your own food.

Washrooms - I BELIEVE that the Molson Centre/Horsepower Grille will be open. As stated above, Tim's is just down the street.

The number of runs will be decided on the fly, but I don't see any reason why we can't get at least six runs in.

See you on the 25th!

—Arris,
Event 5 Organizer

I am excited to present the CASC-OR Mobil1 Autoslalom Calendar for 2010. A one page flyer can be found here.

I am also very happy to announce that OMSC, WOSCA, PMSC, HADA, St Lac, TLMC and SPDA are planning bigger and better events than last year!

SPDA and ST.Lac will be collaborating on their Double-Header weekend to create a Championship Weekend, with trophies generously donated by Change CRAFTER Services.

There are a few changes to the series for 2010.

2 all new street tire classes for street tires of 140 treadwear and up. Very simple classing will allow newcomers to the sport and veterans to arrive-and-drive. Class champions will be declared, however, not eligible for overall points in this inaugural year.

There are also additional prep points available for Vintage Cars (more than 40 years old). More items are free of prep points, and less restrictions to allow Vintage car owners run their classic cars.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Solo openhouse at CSC Racing in Newmarket on April 11th at 1PM.

Event 1 - Full length DDT! [April 08, 2009]

Yes that's right. Event 1 of the 2009 CASC-OR Mobil 1 Autoslalom Series will be run on the full length of the DDT track!!!

Of course we will have cones to make sure speeds are appropriate and to get that autoslalom flavour, but the full length course means a longer run time and greater challenge. This is the first time this has taken place and we owe a debt of gratitude to the folks at OMSC for making it happen.

To speed things up on race day, the registration form for this event can be found here.

So be sure to be there, and tell your friends. Even with 100 entries we can be sure of many runs on a great course.

See you there,

Regards,

Call for CASC-OR Autoslalom Committee Club Volunteers [February 01, 2007]

I think that we all owe Wes a great amount for the work that he has put into this sport over the last few years. I hope that his involvement continues, and he continues to have fun in this sport.

Now I have a request regarding the make up of the 2007 Solo committee. In years previous, I think it has been a group of people who volunteered to help out the Solo Director.

I would like to make a formal request to each of the clubs organizing a Solo 2 Regional event this year to at least have a representative on the Solo committee. Then, we can add other members with some specific duties as needed.

Again Wes, thank you very much.

Peter Mills
CASC-OR Autoslalom Director

— Wes Tanney, now former CASC-OR Autoslalom Director

There is a new CASC-OR Autoslalom Director for 2007 [January 31, 2007]

For the last few months I have considered and contemplated my role in the CASC-OR Autoslalom Series and I have finally made a very hard decision. After two years assisting the previous Autoslalom Director, Robb Smith, and three years as the CASC-OR Autoslalom Director myself I have decided that it is time for me to step aside a let someone new take over running the CASC-OR Autoslalom Series.

Last year I was fortunate enough to have a great bunch of people helping me out and one of them, Peter Mills, has decided that he is willing to fill in as the Autoslalom Director for the remainder of my elected (ok, I wasn't actually elected....) term. Hopefully Pete will continue and also run in November to remain on as the Autoslalom Director, with experience.

Now there is no need to worry as plans for the 2007 season are well underway and progressing along nicely. I have made a commitment to Pete to remain on the 2007 Autoslalom Committee, at least for part of the 2007 season, to ensure a smooth transition for the new Autoslalom Director. The running of the series should not be effected at all by this decision.

I would like to personally thanks all the clubs that have made my tenure as Autoslalom Director mostly a pleasurable one. The clubs in this province have some great people running them and I have made what will no doubt be life long friends through my dealing with the CASC-OR clubs in Ontario and others across the country. I would also like to thank all the people that volunteered to help with the series over the last three years as well. Without these dedicated and selfless people, the series would not exist, thank you all!

I truly hope that my decision will ultimately be a positive move for the series and I truly hope that the sport and the series I have loved so much over the last five or more years will continue to grow and prosper. Please assist Pete in anyway you can to make the 2007 CASC-OR Autoslalom Series season a success.

Thank you and I hope to see most of you out in the nearest parking lot (or track) in the spring.

Please extend Pete a warm welcome and do anything you can to help the poor guy out.

Change to the CASC-OR 2007 Mobil 1 Autoslalom Championship Series Schedule [January 30, 2007]

CASC-OR 2007 Mobil 1 Autoslalom Championship Series UPDATED Schedule [January 15, 2007]

The schedule is basically set for the 2007 season. Currently there are six events with four counting towards the Series and there is the possibility of an additional (seventh) date that MAY be added. Due to the entities involved in this possible seventh date, details have not been resolved as of yet and will hopefully be resolved in a timely fashion. If the seventh event is added, the series will be four of seven.

The series will no longer be referred to as the Regional Autoslalom Series, but rather the Provincial Autoslalom Series since events happen across the province covering Eastern, Western and Central Ontario.

It's unfortunate that there are a number of clubs that have supported the series over many years (specifically TAC, OMSC and PMSC) that are not going to be hosting an event in 2007 but we do have a new club, BARC, that will be hosting their first event in 2007.

The "Provincial Series" will also have events at at least two new venues for 2007 and the other four events are at establish LARGE facilities.

CASC-OR SoloOntario Top Gun Shoot-out [August 18, 2006]

After much consideration and debate I have decided to cancel the CASC-OR SoloOntario Top Gun Shoot-out that was scheduled for October 1 at Mosport's Driver Development Track.

This event, which is a favourite for some competitors, has struggled to get attendance in the last couple years while held at the DDT. It attracts next to no particiapation from the SoloSprint community (they don't like cones I'm told) and only the hard cores from the Autoslalom community attend. The decision was based mostly on the declining turnout for Regional Autoslalom events this season and specifically the total lack of turnout at the Canadian Autoslalom Championships by competitors from Ontario at an event that was hosted by Ontario's own SPDA and MSOC on the Civic Holiday weekend in August here in Toronto. I am not pointing any fingers, just stating the facts as I see them.

I apologize to all those that were looking forward to this unique event and hopefully interest will swell again next year making the event viable once again.

Thank you to all those that have supported the event in the past and hopefully will continue to support it in the future.

CASC-OR Autoslalom Bulletin [May 04, 2006]

A bulletin has been issued to make some updates to the CASC-OR Autoslalom Rule Book. These changes effect both the Regional Series and some of the changes effect all club events (that are insured under ASN Canada FIA's insurance) that run in the province of Ontario. Please take the time to read them whether you are a competitor or an organizer of Autoslalom events in Ontario.

The bulletin can be found on the CASC-OR web page, or here on the Autoslalom web site.

These changes are not related to the CAC event happening in Toronto in August, but some rules do deviate the Ontario rule book away from the CAC Rule Book. So, if you are competing in the CAC event, please read both rule books thoroughly, as they are different in some areas.

The pot has been sweetened a bit [May 20, 2004]

I had a conversation with our co-title sponsor, William from William's Performance Friction, and he wants to up the ante a bit.

He asked me if we had trophies or prizes to the top competitors at each event. Of course we have some door prize give aways for each event, but not for competition. So, William has offered a free set of brake pads to the "Top Scoring" competitor at each event. The top scoring competitor is usually the person who scored 100 points and has the best back-up time (refer to the rule book on tie breaking).

Pat Yorke was the top scoring competitor for the event, so the first set of pads go to Pat. Congratulations Pat!

A competitor is only eligible to win one set per season.

There will also be two sets given away at each event as door prizes at the end of each competition day (that each competitor entered into the event are eligible to win regardless of how many they have won in the past)

A big thanks to William! — Wes

Since the classification, pax and a lot of other aspects of the series have changed for this season, there may still be small tweaks that will need to be worked out. So, if you notice errors, please e-mail me with what you have noticed and it will be reviewed and changed accordingly.

Also, due to the overwhelming amount of e-mail I have been receiving, I seem to be getting some messages immediately and others seem to take up to 48 hours to make it to my inbox, so if I don't immediately respond... that's probably why, unless of course I am ignoring you! — Wes

Preliminary Results for Event #1 Are Up [May 03, 2004]

Event # 1 of the CASC-OR 2004 Mobil 1 Autoslalom Championship Series Sponsored by Williams Performance Friction happened yesterday, May 2nd at Ontario Place in beautiful downtown Toronto despite questionable weather.

The run times, sorted by class and fastest times from the day from yesterday's event have been posted in the 2004 Event Results Section.

I think the big thanks needs to go to Tony Kloosterman for taking care of the series registration and series registered people.

A big thanks goes out to all of the HADA people who ran the event, and specifically all the people who marshalled all day in the rain and cold so competitors didn't have to. Considering the weather, it was a great start to the 2004 season. 86 brave souls came out, including a couple of competitors from the states. Here's hoping event # 2, hosted by St. Lac., at Picton Airport on May 30th has a little better weather (ok a lot better weather).

A big thanks to all of the series sponsors; Mobil 1, Williams Performance Friction, Wheel & Tire Zone, Mad Macs Communications, Tsunami Technology Group Inc, Reaction Grafix, Both Feet In Performance Driving and CG-Lock for their support. — Wes

Affiliate Sponsor Press Release [February 17, 2004]

Perry Iannuzzi, Vice President of the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario Region (CASC-OR) announced today the introduction of a new Affiliate Sponsor Program designed to attract new corporate sponsors to grassroots motorsports in Ontario.

"We've Got The Place to Race" is the motto of CASC-OR with it's "Take it to the Track" theme to enable today's motorsports enthusiast a venue to race their street cars, performance tuned &/or highly modified race cars in the environments that will ensure the safety of the participants as well as the spectating public. "We offer the places where street racers can get off the street and start having fun legally" Iannuzzi says.

With CASC-ORs new Affiliate Program, we offer potential sponsors a wide variety of Affiliate Program sponsor packages tailored to work in conjunction with their advertising plan and provide much needed prize funds &/or product &/or services awards to the racing competitor.

The first component of our Affiliate Program has the sponsor offer a special discount to all CASC-OR affiliated member clubs & their members on all products and services. Secondly, a fee, based on participation levels in which of the CASC-OR Divisions the sponsor would like to participate, would be paid to CASC-OR by the sponsor to be used as prize funds, awards & trophies etc.

By bringing a new sponsor into the world of motorsports at the highest level, we can guarantee that the sponsors name, message, products &/or services will be in the public's eye. Working in conjunction with our corporate media sponsor, Inside Track Communications, publisher of some of motorsports finest magazines such as Inside Track Motorsport News and Sport Compact National, we offer aggressive advertising campaigns combined with up to date editorial content for today's avid motorsport enthusiast.

To kick start the new Affiliate Program, CASC-OR has signed an agreement with Williams Performance Friction Products (www.WPFRI.com), a Mississauga based, Canadian made brake products manufacturer. The agreement for 2004 offers a 20% discount to all CASC-OR affiliated members and their families on all WPFRI Solo I, Solo II, Open & Closed Wheel Racing applications as well as street pads & rotor products. One of the industry leaders for many years, Williams has just shifted it's operations from one of the largest OEM suppliers to many of the automakers to concentrate on the motorsports world.

"We offer the right pad for the right application" WPFRI president, William Dickson says. "We're committed to CASC-OR and it's members 100%" he added. Dickson went on to say that they have ramped up production in their Mississauga location to meet the demand of today's racers.

"We're excited with this program launch and we encourage all our members to support our Affiliate Partners" Iannuzzi said. With more sponsors negotiations going on almost everyday, Iannuzzi expects this to be a banner year for more companies to come on board. "It's a easy as calling up the sponsor, telling them what CASC-OR affiliated club you belong to, give them your membership number and you get your discount right on the spot." Iannuzzi concluded.

If you are interested becoming part of CASC-OR Affiliate Partner Program, please contact Perry Iannuzzi at vicepres@casc.on.ca or 905-415-1126. Williams Performance Friction Products can be reached at 1-800-480-7390 or sales@wpfri.com. — Perry Iannuzzi, CASC-OR Director (edited for length)

Several Dates Confirmed [February 11, 2004]

The dates and location for the Solo II School, Regional event #1, and the Solo Shoot-Out have been announced. — Yvan

Update from the Director [February 05, 2004]

Well, I would like to take this opportuninty to bring everyone up to speed as to what is happening in the regional Solo II world.

First off, there is a Solo II Committee; myself as the Solo 2 Director and Chief Timer and Scorer, Tony Kloosterman will be the Registrar (taking care of series and hopefully event registration), Yvan Rodrigues is the web page designer and is responsible for building the online registration, Peter Lejbjuk is the Chief Scutineer and Joe Trinidad is the Marketing guy. Thanks men!

The rule book; the rule book is about to be released in it's final draft format for competitors to review (I did say review!). There are a couple of clubs that have said they are sending comments from the second draft and the final car classifications from CNAC are forth coming as well as a few more changes from the top. Stay tuned, it should be available for competitor review shortly.

Dates so far

Timing System; The regional timing system is in the works. This timing system will be used at all regional events, giving more predictable and standardized results and having a database before each event. Initial pieces have been ordered and a new sponsor, Tsunami Technology Group Inc. (http://www.technology.ca), is purchasing computer hardware for the series (Welcome aboard!).

The new web site; Yvan has been hard at work getting the new web site up and running and should be online this week with all the appropriate domain name changes. The new site and the "Offical CASC-OR Regional Solo II Web Site" will be http://www.solo2ontario.com. You will also notice an online registration section. You can register for events online this year. The idea is to speed up registration and data input the day of the event. You will still have to line up to sign the waivers and forms and pay, but you will not have to fill out forms the morning of the event and with Tony looking after the registration duties, it should be a step in the right direction. The goal for next year (2005) is to have bar coding and online pay registration to speed things up even further.

Sponsors; Mobil 1 is back as the title sponsor for the series (thanks David), as is Mad Macs Communications (thanks to Perry and Joanne), the above metioned Tsunami Technology Group Inc. (thanks to Don and Gord), as well as CASC-OR corporate sponsors, and more are in the works, stay tuned.

There has also been some suggestions about hosting a second Solo II School for intermediate level drivers. This would be specifically for people who have some experience and want to try to step up to the next level. If there is indeed an interest in this, then it will seriously be considered.

As information becomes available and is confirmed, I will try to keep everyone abreast of the situation. That's all for now. — Wes

New web site [January 31, 2004]

Welcome to the new Solo2 website. We've changed the look of the site to be consistent with the Solo1 site. The site in still under construction so some links might not yet work but everything should be fixed in the next day or two.

There will be some cool new features coming soon. You'll be able to pre-register for events so you won't have to wait in line for registration. You'll also be able to get event details and directions from the road using your cell phone on the new WAP site. Stay tuned!

Using Netscape 4.x and wondering why this site is so ugly? This site uses XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS2 which really old browsers don't understand. A text-only version of this site may be available in the future. — Yvan
